Dan Pink's Career Advice for 2008
Some advice for building careers in the knowledge economy from Dan Pink. Nobody really needs 184 slides to convey six main points, but the presentation (embedded below) is pretty clever none-the-less.
For those of you interested in skipping the slides:
Lesson 1: There is no plan. "Traditional" career paths no longer exist.
Lesson 2: Think strengths, not weaknesses. Do a little self reflection to determine what you're good at. Your "Remarkable" lies at the intersection of your strengths and passions.
Lesson 3: It's not about you. Your mission is the interesection of your "remarkable" and what the world needs (e.g. adding value, helping clients, helping others)
Lesson 4: Persistence trumps talent. Obviously, you need some talent, but that's not gonna get it done - think "continuous improvement."
Lesson 5: Make excellent mistakes. Think big and aim high (even if you fall short). You're better off than setting low achievable goals.
Lesson 6: Leave an imprint. Do something that matters. Contribute. Make a dent in the Universe.
