Haiku LMS keeps kicking ass
I'm really proud of the guys at haiku learning system. For the past three years, they've been consistently releasing tremendously cool code that is absolutely on the cutting edge. I was on a call with them yesterday and got a preview of Version 4 (which they're rolling out next week).
The teachers and school administrators (the customers that use their software) will no doubt be pleased with the brand new portal and roster features, but I'm most excited by the brand new navigation bar across the bottom of the screen:

This is really a novel innovation that Facebook pioneered earlier this year, but is already being used successfully by other hot startups like Adaptive Blue and Wibiya. I don't know what it is, but there is something really slick about putting quick navigation at the bottom of the screen instead of the top. I expect to get expert-level commands and functionality from a toolbar that feels more like the browser (or browser extension) than I do when the navigation is embedded into a more traditional web "page" interface.
It looks great and I can't wait to see it in action next week.
