The Cupcake That Launched 1000 Ships

This afternoon, I had the good fortune of running into an exciting parade celebrating the eighth anniversary of Ft. Greene's favorite baker, Cakeman Raven.  According to local legend, this guy only answers to his nickname "Cakeman" and he takes his red velvet pretty seriously.  It's sold from his tiny little shop on Fulton Street, and there is almost always a line.  Two out of the five times I've been there, they've been out of cake.  It's just that popular.

Oh, and they are very very tasty.

So, it's no wonder that the neighborhood really rallies around this guy when he throws a party.  This afternoon they had blocked off Fulton street for the parade and setup a huge stage.  There were several thousand people there, and plenty of free cupcakes.  I had my camera along and snapped a few pics.  See the rest over @ flickr.
